Anne-Geneviève Poitras discovered her cooking talents during study breaks while attending Law School in University. She happily traded in her books for pots and pans, and enrolled at ITHQ (Institut du Tourisme et d’Hôtellerie du Québec) in Montreal, Qc. A sweet tooth since her childhood, Anne chose to train in Pastry & Bakery with a specialization in Chocolate and Glacerie (gelato, sorbet, etc).
Determined to learn from classical trained chefs as much as leaders of the new cuisine; Anne-Geneviève pursued her education at various establishments, such as the distinguished Mount Royal Club, and the world renowned restaurant Toqué! where she worked alongside Chef Normand Laprise.
Anne’s desire to become bilingual, and advance her career through chef jobs abroad, bought her to Vancouver to learn English in 2008. Little did she know, her biggest challenge would turn out to be finding her guilty pleasure: artisan French single origin or plantation chocolates. Clearly she had found a niche market in Vancouver’s growing food scene… so she stayed!
A year later, Anne opened her cozy little French shop on 21st Avenue at Main Street in Vancouver, BC. Her goal: share her passion for French chocolate; teach her clients about single origin chocolates and finally; promote the importance of handmade local products in our food industry.
Today, Anne-Geneviève is part of Canada’s 10 best Chocolatières. Recognised in over 40 publications across the country, Anne was also recently seen on Radio-Canada’s Le Téléjournal Colombie Brittanique and TVA’s Viens voir ici.
With 4 awards obtained in the first 4 years of business, including a Canadian silver medal at the 2012’s International Chocolate Awards, our chocolatière is now focussing on Chocolaterie Nouvelle France’s online shop and its wholesale line of products, in the hopes of reaching out to the hearts (and stomachs!) of as many North Americans as possible.
Message from Anne-Geneviève
Thank you for visiting my company’s website. I hope that through this virtual world you can still feel the love I put in my work every day. If you have the chance to visit Vancouver, please stop by my shop, I would love to share a piece of my world with you.
To all my employees and friends back in France who are missing our Fleur de Sel Caramels; I hope to soon be shipping to Europe and make all those tears disappear!
Je vous embrasse bien fort.
